About African Masks Plus

African Masks Plus is an unique center where people come to shop and learn about African culture. There are over 1,500 pieces on display including masks, sculptures, and crafts that are made of leather, fabric, wood and other natural elements. We educate our clients by offering lectures, discussions and videos that show tribes dancing in various African countries.

The designs of masks and sculptures are based on traditions dictated by social and religious beliefs of tribes combined with the artist's vision. The work of the African tribal artists who created the art were believed to be deeply spiritual and highly respected within their societies. We have other crafts on display including woven baskets, beadwork and various objects that were used for daily living and tribal ceremonies.

Passionate about
history and culture

"I appreciate and admire African art because it’s basic in a beautiful way and revolves around how ancestral spirits connect to our world. As a young child I became mesmerized by the shapes and simplicity of African art forms. I found it easy to identify and understand the artists and what they were trying to create. I began collecting as a teenager and continue until this day. I always feel comfort and peace when I am surrounded by my African collection. It is almost like the pieces have a life of their own."   Judy Dinnerman
ABOUT OUR AFRICAN ART

Why African Art is Important in Today's World

There is something magical to discover when looking at African art. The language that tribal artists use is simple and universal which allows it to have an emotional impact even through the passage of time. Western painters and sculptors have been fascinated by tribal art. Matisse, Matta, Gauguin, Picasso, Braque, Brancusi, Moore, Lam have all drawn inspiration from African art which makes their figures so alive in their ancestral spirituality. African art has been fundamental for spiritual growth in those who do ritual art outside of the African continent. Almost any piece of art you see today can be traced back to African roots. African tribal art is within almost everything we do today including, music, clothing, and decor. This art is important in today's world because it represents and combines the past, present and future.
